about

This piece is a study in evolving time signatures that share a consistent pulse. It begins in 3 / 4, then moves to 5 / 4, back to 3 / 4 and then to 7 / 4. The challenge was to find a way to use chords and melody that would create a seamless structure over the shifting signatures. The verse lead part was the result of a live jam using the Subsequent 37 while the chorus lead is a generative patch on the Novation Peak that is cycling through a 7-note arpeggio on an 8 beat pattern. The relationship between this cyclic part and the rest of the arrangement in 7 / 4 was an orchestrated happy accident.
